The Stadium Managers Association (SMA) has chosen its line-up for the 2015 SMA Seminar Internship Program. Philicia Douglas from the University of South Florida, Ian Groopman from Ohio University, Meryl Hershfield from Florida Atlantic University, David Neder from the University of Alabama, Joseph Pacheco from California Baptist University, and Hunter Thomasson from the University of Arkansas were recently selected as interns for the SMA Seminar in Los Angeles, CA, February 1-4, 2015.
Their collective experience includes previous internships with the Arena Football League, NCAA basketball and soccer, and an array of collegiate and professional athletic facilities including the University of Arkansas, the University of Alabama, BC Place in Vancouver, Canada, and Red Bulls Arena in New York, NY.
Their combined volunteer experience includes positions with the Peninsula Family YMCA, the City of Riverside Parks and Recreation Department, various community outreach programs on college and university campuses, and many others.
“This internship is a unique opportunity for students in Sports Business Management programs to be immersed in the industry and expand their experience,” said Mary Mycka, Executive Director of SMA. “However, the students are not the only ones benefitting from the internship program. SMA members also reap the opportunity to meet and preview the work of potential interns and employees.”
Kelsey Smith, Event Coordinator for Tropicana Field, will return as Intern Coordinator for the 2015 SMA Seminar. This year’s seminar will cover topics including enhancing guest experiences, stadium technology, green cleaning options for sports venues and many more.
