SMA Internship Program

The SMA Seminar Student internship program is a unique opportunity for students in Sports Business Management programs to be immersed in the industry, grow within their skill sets and expand their experience. Participants use this internship to expand their industry experience and to meet league officials and top facility managers that, for many, have led to job opportunities with the NFL, MLB, MLS, and intercollegiate stadiums as well as with vendors who service these stadiums.

SMA’s 2027 Seminar event will take place February 14-18, 2027 in Arlington, TX. Selected interns will have the opportunity to travel to the in-person seminar.

SMA Seminar Internship Application & Selection Timeline:

September 10 -Applications Open
October 30 - Application Deadline
November 2-20 - Committee reviews applications and makes final selections. All applicants will be notified early December

Applications Opening Soon for 2027 Seminar Student Internship Program!

The internship will be open to current undergraduate and graduate students, as well as students who have recently graduated within the past year. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, have graduated within the past year or a student with junior, senior, or graduate student standing, a minimum of 2.5 GPA, and a focus in stadium management or an industry related field.

For consideration, the application must be complete and accurate and all applicants must be a current student member of SMA to qualify.

Student Membership

This is your opportunity for vital resources, new business relationships & so much more. Must be enrolled in a full-time curriculum of undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate studies at an accredited college or university to apply. Recent graduates can apply for student membership if within 12 months of the graduation date.

Student Membership Internship Details and Volunteer Agreement Internship Application

Attending the SMA Seminar for a second time allowed me to continue to build on past relationships while also building new connections. I was able to sit in on educational sessions that provided me valuable insights into what stadium managers are dealing with right now. This experience is always a phenomenal opportunity to give me real-world experience and connections I can use as I build my career.

The SMA internship allowed me to form meaningful connections with those in the Stadium Management industry. While I did learn a great deal from the panels and workshops, it was the relationships that I made which will be the most beneficial as I embark on a career in this industry.

For years, my mentor encouraged me to apply for the SMA Seminar Internship, emphasizing the value of connecting with professionals in our field and the lasting impact the experience could have on my career. After completing the Seminar, I realized just how right he was. It was truly a life changing experience I wish I had pursued early on in college!
